What is SoonerConnect?
SoonerConnect is the product of an arrangement between the University of Oklahoma and local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to provide high-speed broadband connections to the Internet. With download speeds ranging from 128k-3mbps, this service provides faster access to bandwidth intensive resources.
Who is eligible to get SoonerConnect?
Anyone affiliated with the University of Oklahoma is eligible to sign up for this service (ie. Faculty, Staff, Students, and Affiliates).
Who provides the SoonerConnect service?
Currently there are two service providers who sell the SoonerConnect service: Cox High Speed Services and SBC.
How much is the SoonerConnect service?
Installation and monthly charges for the service vary by service provider as well as the service that suits your needs. A listing of
itemized pricing is located at the Service Comparison page (installation charges range from $0-150, monthly charges range from $34.95-$189.95).
How do I sign up for the SoonerConnect service?
Review the Service Providers information. Use the sign up page for the service provider that you wish to use.
What operating systems will work with SoonerConnect?
Currently Microsoft Windows 3.x/95/98/ME/NT/2000, Macintosh, and Unix/Linux are supported operating systems on SoonerConnect. This
does not include the VPN.
Who do I call if I have problems with the service?
Cox customers should call Cox High Speed Services.

Can I get access to University resources with SoonerConnect?
With SoonerConnect you will be able to access all non-restricted web-based information. Access to network resources such as file servers or the e-mail system using Outlook require use of the VPN.
Can I use Microsoft Outlook to access my e-mail with SoonerConnect?
Yes, but this requires use of the VPN. The only way to access your e-mail without the VPN is through the webmail client.
What guidelines or procedures do I have to abide by on SoonerConnect?
With the SoonerConnect service you will have to abide by the service providers Terms and Conditions as well as their Acceptable Use Policy.
What is the difference from SoonerConnect and Cox@Home?
SoonerConnect is a service specifically designed for OU to provide our users with high speed Internet access.
I already have Cox@Home. If I sign up for the premium SoonerConnect service, will I get to keep my existing e-mail and web space?
No, your web space will be gone. You will only get new e-mail addresses if you sign up for the enhanced service option. It is recommended that you save all your existing e-mail prior to signing up with SoonerConnect.
What will change when I move from Road Runner to SoonerConnect?
Nothing on your end will change. Cox will need to make a few administrative changes on their end to complete the transfer.
If I currently have Cox high speed Internet, why should I sign up for SoonerConnect?
You get the same great service at a reduced price. If you are a current customer, you will lose your personal web space and your current e-mail addresses. With the Cox High Speed Internet SoonerConnect Enhanced service, you will get three IP addresses and three new Cox High Speed Internet e-mail addresses.
Cox@Home users switching to the SoonerConnect service will only be charged $34.95 for the basic service and $37.95 for the
enhanced service.
If I already have Cox@home do I still need to sign up through SoonerConnect?
Yes, if you want to join the SoonerConnect program you must sign up using the Cox Sign Up page.
If I already have DSL do I need to sign up?
Yes. Please go to the SBC DSL sign up page. (Currently unavailable)
If I do not have any Cox service will the price still be $34.95 for the basic and $37.95 for the enhanced service?
Yes, the price of the service will be the same, however there will be a $10 charge for generating a special bill. If you have
either Cox telephony or Cox cable TV this charge is waived.
