Campus Specific Information
This page provides information on the OU VPN and the unique operations or needs of the different campuses of the University.
OU - NORMAN CAMPUS
In an effort to provide a more reliable and secure online service to the University community, OU is now offering Virtual Private Network (VPN) service to all faculty, staff and student users. The University VPN is a secure access entry point to the OU network from any remote site.
  • VPN Installation Information
    Access to OU Network resources through the VPN requires installation of the VPN client on the individual's computer.
  • Antivirus Software
    Antivirus products help protect your computer and the campus network from viruses. OU has licensed antivirus software for use by the university community.
  • Help
    A variety of resources are available to assist users with problems they may have using the VPN.

OU - HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER (HSC)
OUHSC is offering authorized personnel Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections to HSC campus resources from the Internet.
  • VPN Installation Information
    Access to HSC Network resources through the VPN requires installation of the VPN client on the individual's computer. The following materials are provided to assist with installation an operation of the VPN client for OUHSC computer users: (The documentation files are PDF files. A PDF reader can be downloaded for free from Adobe.)

  • VPN and Security Issues
    Before the VPN can be used to access HSC Network resources, several additional steps or measures must be taken.

    • VPN-Group-1 Access
      VPN-Group-1 membership provides access to the Exchange 2000 e-mail system using the Outlook client. It also provides access to the NEWMOON file and print server and to intranet web servers (An intranet web server has restricted access to users from internal HSC IP addresses.) You must be a member of at least VPN-Group-1 in order to access the HSC Network. If you require remote VPN access to additional resources such as department file servers please contact your Tier One or computer support personnel.     • VPN-Group-2 Access
      VPN-Group-2 membership provides remote access to Windows based departmental file servers as well as Exchange 2000 using Outlook and the NEWMOON file and print server. For more information on how to remotely access resources such as department file servers please contact your Tier One or computer support personnel. You can find a directory listing of Department Tier One’s here.

    • VPN Test Page
      After installing the VPN client and signing up for VPN-Group-1 access, you can test your connection to the HSC VPN. Start the VPN client, open a browser and follow the VPN Test page link below. You should see a page confirming that you are on the OUHSC Network via the VPN. If you don't receive the confirmation message, consult the troubleshooting guide available above or contact the VPN Helpdesk.
    • Antivirus Software
      An up-to-date antivirus product must be installed on your computer. The antivirus product can help protect your computer from viruses and Trojan horses. OU has licensed antivirus software for use by the university community. HSC users can download the software and see virus alerts at the following pages:
    • Personal Firewalls
      Personal firewall software or hardware devices may be used as further protection against security risks. Please see the VPN Information page for additional information and resources for personal firewalls.

OU - TULSA
Access to VPN services from Tulsa is dependent on whether your computer account was issued from the Norman campus or the Health Sciences Center.
